The Role of a Quality Assurance Manager

The project manager is responsible for the quality, but he can not do everything himself and must be able to delegate. A topic for which it´s worth to define responsible member of the project team is quality assurance. The quality assurance manager must care that the processes are implemented with understanding and report to the project manager, if the fulfillment of quality requirements is jeopardized. Experience shows that it takes a second look at the project, therefore, an independent quality assurance is required by reference models such as ISO 9001, CMMI  ....
If the quality assurance manager has the potential to become a deputy project manager, and has also the understanding and knowledge for the task, he contributes a lot to project success. This requires, however, that the project manager understands the function of the quality assurance manager and relies on him.
